*Scope 3 emissions for fuel, business travel, and commuting were developed in accordance with the GHG Protocol, using the 2023 DEFRA GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting. Building energy use: Total building electricity and gas use is multiplied by the proportion of office space that Aether occupies. Assumes all organisations within the building use a similar amount of energy (on a floor area basis) which may not be accurate. Homeworking: Calculations follow ecoact's 2020 homeworking whitepaper. Staff survey used to collect information on days spent in the office or on business travel (the remaining time, after leave, is assumed to be time WfH), heating type and whether home is already occupied when WfH. Uncertainty on number of WfH hours across a year. Business travel - flights: Expense return used to detail list of flights taken across the year. Flight distance database used to convert journeys into distance. Defra EFs applied. Business travel - other: Expense return used to note journeys by train, bus, coach, taxi etc. Journeys converted into distance, EFs applied. Sometimes detail is missing in expense claim of where the journey was specifically to/from. Hotel stays: Expense claim used to note hotel stays across the year. Defra EFs applied to rooms per person. Nearest/applicable countries used where the Defra EFs do not contain a factor for a particular country. Commuting: Staff survey used to ask how often people travel into the office, by what mode, and how far. Defra EFs multiplied by distance for each mode. Some uncertainty on how often people travel into the office vs WfH across the year.
