Transitioning to New Emissions Measurement Tools

Taking climate action is essential for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) to build strong and resilient companies. The SME Climate Hub is dedicated to supporting SMEs through their decarbonization journey from first step to last.

To continue optimizing our free tools and resources in support of all types of businesses, we are transitioning to new emissions measurement tools. Businesses can’t effectively reduce their emissions, unless they can measure them, and gain a clear understanding of their outputs. We are looking forward to a new chapter that helps all companies gain an accurate picture of their emissions.

With the transition now underway, the Business Carbon Calculator developed by Normative will be phased out on January 31, 2025. After this date, you will no longer have access to your account or data within this tool. We urge all businesses who have used the Business Carbon Calculator to download their data from the tool before it is discontinued. The SME Climate Hub will continue to host Normative’s Business Carbon Calculator on our website until its closing on January 31, 2025. It is available for calculations until its closing date.

In January 2025, the SME Climate Hub will launch two new free emissions measurement tools.

  • One tool designed for SMEs with operations across multiple facilities who are looking for a more comprehensive carbon calculator to measure their Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
  • A Scope 3 calculator which uses procurement spend data to create a Scope 3 emissions model and help SMEs understand which of their suppliers have the highest emissions.

In March 2025, the SME Climate Hub will launch a small business carbon calculator to replace the Business Carbon Calculator. Available for free on the SME Climate Hub, the simple and accessible tool is specifically designed to help SMEs with under 50 employees get started on their emissions measurements.

Prior to its launch, a selection of SMEs will have the chance to test the small business carbon calculator and provide feedback. Please share your interest here if you would like to join the beta testing.

We look forward to providing our community with measurement tools that continue to meet their evolving needs. For questions on the tool transition, please contact [email protected].
